Frequently asked questions about Palau.
Photographs mislead here more than most places: the same view changes completely with the aspect and the hour. Write before you book a trip and we'll put together a sensible round.
Tell us what you're looking forLess than on the Costa Smeralda: average asking prices in residential areas are broadly €3,500 to €4,500 per m². Porto Rafael and the panoramic positions facing the archipelago sit well above that band. A particular house is judged on its view, sea access and plot, not on the town average.
Porto Rafael, the car-free 1950s village facing La Maddalena, with few sales a year and many handled privately. Punta Sardegna looks onto the archipelago up close, while Barrabisa and Capannaccia see it from above with more privacy. Capo d'Orso offers sheltered inlets and plots among granite and Mediterranean scrub.
It is the easiest base for La Maddalena and Caprera: ferries and boat trips leave from town, and the Strait of Bonifacio is a day out on the water. The season runs beyond July and August, and June and September are ideal. Send us your dates and guests and we will reply with available homes.
Yes, and that sets it apart on this stretch of coast. The ferries to La Maddalena and Caprera run all year and the town keeps its services, schools and shops open through winter, which the purely tourist towns nearby do not. For a second home you plan to use at length, that matters more than the price per m².
About forty kilometres, some three quarters of an hour by car. It is further than Porto Rotondo or Porto San Paolo, but still easy for a long weekend, and from town you reach La Maddalena by ferry without needing the car.
